NEW YORK — Simon and Schuster announced that Chrystia Freeland's book, *Unreliable Boyfriend*, will be published on Oct. 13. The book details her experiences navigating U.S.-Canada relations during periods of political turbulence.

Freeland, who previously served as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, characterized Donald Trump as an existential threat to Canada's future during 2024 and 2025. Trump, President of the United States, threatened tariffs on Canadian imports during this period and suggested Canada should become the 51st U.S. state. Trump previously described Freeland as totally toxic and a terrible person.

Freeland resigned from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet in 2024 due to disagreements with Trudeau over how to respond to Trump. "We're very unhappy with the negotiations and the negotiating style of Canada. We don't like their representative very much." Trump said.

"This is a book about power, democracy, and the choices countries make when the old rules no longer seem to apply. As a Canadian negotiating with the United States during years of extraordinary political turbulence, I had a front-row seat to historic change. I wanted to tell the story of what I saw — and what it means for the future," Freeland said.

Trudeau appointed Freeland as minister of international trade following the 2015 Canadian elections. She served in various Canadian government positions over the decade following her 2015 appointment. Freeland is considered an expert on Russia and Ukraine. She holds degrees from Harvard University and the University of Oxford, where she was a Rhodes scholar in 1993. Before entering politics, Freeland worked as an author and journalist.
