WASHINGTON — Trader Joe's will release its mini canvas tote bags in stores on Wednesday, June 17, while also pursuing legal action against online sellers of counterfeit versions. The bags will retail for $2.99 each and will be sold only while supplies last.
The new tote bags, first introduced in 2024, will be available in four striped pastel colors: green, pink, blue, and brown. They measure 13 inches long, 11 inches tall, and 6 inches wide. Store availability of these striped tote bags may vary by location.
Customers have previously lined up at store locations before opening for bag releases, and some stores have sold out within hours. Some online resale listings for the tote bags have exceeded their original retail price by hundreds or thousands of dollars.
A Trader Joe's spokesperson stated that the company had filed a lawsuit. The spokesperson said, "We are aware that some knockoff totes are being sold online and have recently filed a lawsuit to protect our customers from being misled." Trader Joe's sells its branded merchandise exclusively through its retail store locations.
Trader Joe's has previously released limited-edition tote bags in pastel spring colors, Halloween-themed designs, cooler styles, and micro sizes. The company also previously released mini insulated tote bags with a 1.5-gallon capacity in six color options, including pink, blue, orange, lavender, and striped patterns.
No independent assessment of Trader Joe's’s claims was available.
