CALIFORNIA — Plex is launching new social features this month and later this year to enhance entertainment discovery. This includes new options for users to create and share personalized content lists, use community forums, and access a Match Scores feature.

This month, Plex will introduce a community forum where users can post comments on specific movies, shows, seasons, or episodes. The new social features allow users to create and share personalized lists of movies, television shows, or individual episodes. Later this year, users will be able to import lists from external streaming platforms and react to lists created by other users. The community forum will use artificial intelligence and human moderators to review submissions. Users will also be able to react to content with emojis and attach images to reviews and discussions.

Later this year, Plex will roll out a Match Scores feature. This feature predicts user enjoyment by analyzing viewing history and past ratings, calculating a percentage to indicate how a title aligns with viewing preferences. A Follow Anything feature will also be available, notifying users of new releases and activities related to followed movies, shows, actors, and crew members.

Plex stated that these additions are a step in the company's goal to combine entertainment discovery and assist users in navigating the streaming landscape. Scott Olechowski, Plex co-founder and chief product officer, stated that the future of entertainment discovery is social and trust-driven. Olechowski said that the Match Scores feature takes the guesswork out of discovery by providing a personal assessment of whether a title is suitable for the user.

Plex reports indicate over 42 million monthly active users in more than 180 countries and territories. The company's data indicates users make over 100 million viewing decisions monthly and have created more than 45 million watchlists. In 2023, Plex launched Discover Together, a feature that allowed users to follow friends' viewing activities. Last year, public user profiles and content reviews were introduced. Effective July 1, the cost of a lifetime Plex Pass subscription will increase to $749.99.
