SAN FRANCISCO — Cash App launched an NFC-enabled payment accessory called the Cash App Wand on June 4, 2026. The wand is priced at $25 and contains a built-in NFC tag that pairs with an active Cash App Card.
Users activate and link the wand to their account by holding it against the back of a smartphone. The accessory processes transactions at merchants that accept Visa tap-to-pay and operates without requiring Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, battery power, or a minimum account balance. The wand includes a keychain ring for attachment to bags or clothing, and the company requires purchasers of the wand to be at least 13 years old.
The initial production run of the Cash App Wand is limited to approximately 10,000 units. The company plans to release additional Tag designs in limited quantities before offering broader availability later in the summer of 2026.
The wand features in-app controls that allow users to lock or unlock the device. The company provides real-time transaction alerts and 24-hour fraud monitoring for wand usage. The company introduced accounts for teenagers in 2021 and launched a parent-controlled debit card for children aged 6 to 12 in 2026. The company states that one in five teenagers in the U.S. currently use its Cash App Card.
Thomas Templeton, Hardware Lead at Block, said, "While digital wallets are invisible and physical cards are often buried in wallets, Cash App Tags are just the opposite. We see a unique opportunity here to make payments visible and social for the first time." He added, "At Cash App, we think payment should be just the opposite. It should be visible. It should be fun."
No independent assessment of Cash App’s claims was available.
