CHATTANOOGA — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) released the design concept for a new federal courthouse located on Vine Street in Chattanooga. The proposed facility will encompass approximately 191,000 square feet.

The courthouse design consolidates the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and the Circuit Library into a single secure location. The facility includes seven courtrooms and nine judges' chambers, along with 40 interior parking spaces, and dedicated space for the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Edward C. Forst, GSA Administrator, said the project focuses on safety, efficiency, and accessibility in a top-tier facility. Chief Judge Travis R. McDonough further stated the courthouse will serve as a sanctuary for those who seek justice, a forum for gathering, and a classroom for student citizens.

HOK is leading the design team as the designer of record. Brasfield & Gorrie is serving as construction manager as constructor, and fs3|Hodges is serving as construction manager as advisor for the project. The GSA has opened a solicitation for a federal art commission related to the courthouse project, with a deadline of June 15. Additional project milestones and construction timelines will be published on the GSA courthouse project page.
