Meta announced that the virtual reality fitness game Supernatural will cease receiving new updates as part of broader layoffs in its virtual reality division. The company will spin off Supernatural into an independent entity, Supernatural Health, which will operate as a standalone application on the Horizon Store.
James Senior will serve as the chief executive officer of Supernatural Health. Senior previously held a product leadership position for its Studio and New Vertical portfolios. The new company is expected to release new content in the fall of 2026.
The parent company plans to discontinue the current version of the Supernatural application before the new application launches. Existing Supernatural subscriptions will remain valid until December 3, 2026. Transition details will be communicated directly to current subscribers. The entity will assume management of the Supernatural social media accounts and official Facebook group.
The Federal Trade Commission unsuccessfully challenged the 2023 acquisition of Within, the original developer of Supernatural. The acquisition was reportedly valued at approximately 400 million dollars. "Supernatural is being reborn. Same coaches, same DNA, same obsession with making fitness feel like the best part of your day — now under a new, independent company we are starting from the ground up." A company representative said.
"We are grateful for the platform and resources Meta provided during a critical growth phase. This transition reflects a shared belief that Supernatural’s community is best served by a focused, independent team. Meta has been supportive throughout." The representative added.
No independent assessment of Supernatural Health’s claims was available.
