LONDON — Meta tested an AI-generated story feed within its standalone Meta AI application, which launched in April 2025. The company confirmed on June 10, 2025, that this test will be discontinued. The feed and its generated articles did not include labels identifying the content as AI-created.

The application's interface currently features a standard chatbot and a For You page. This page displays suggested article prompts that, when selected, generate full AI-written stories. Internal application logs indicated that system instructions directed the AI to function as a conversational assistant responding to feed cards.

The AI system generated articles accompanied by AI-produced images. One generated image for a prompt about royal finances depicted two figures representing Queen Elizabeth II and included approximated figures resembling Princess Kate, Prince William, and King Charles. Another AI-generated image was an animated GIF showing two individuals making anatomically impossible arm movements.

The AI-generated text in the stories repeated the premise of the prompt without external sourcing. Examples of these prompts included "A royal butler finally settled the milk first debate" and "The psychology of joining a queue without knowing why." Another user received prompts titled "My fake Rolex experiment" and "The brutal math behind the Rolex waitlist illusion." The application's algorithm generated story prompts based on detected user location and interests.

Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton stated, "We're testing a daily feed that proactively shares tips, content, and recommendations tailored to your interests." Clayton said, "The goal is to suggest what's most relevant to you – such as fitness advice, meal plans, or other insights – before you even have to ask." She added, "This was a test for a limited number of users and it will be deprecated."

No independent assessment was available for this report.
