BUDA, TEXAS — Damien Montague Roberts was convicted in April 2025 of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both classified as family violence offenses. He received a 40-year sentence for the murder conviction and a 20-year sentence for the aggravated assault conviction.

Deputies responded to a family violence call on November 21, 2020, at a residence in the 200 block of Shale Circle. Deputies found 65-year-old Darrell Thierry dead in the living room of the residence. Witnesses reported Thierry argued with his 42-year-old son, Roberts, at the residence. Both men were visiting the area from out of town when the incident occurred.

During the argument, Roberts struck Thierry unconscious. Roberts then retrieved a handgun from a bedroom and returned to shoot Thierry multiple times. Deputies detained Roberts at the residence shortly after the shooting.

While in custody, Roberts attempted to escape by pushing against the deputies. Deputies restrained Roberts and placed him in a patrol vehicle following a physical struggle. Roberts received 1,602 days of jail credit toward his sentence. Both prison terms will run concurrently. He will become eligible for parole in 2040.
