LONDON — British actor Anthony Head died at age 72 from complications due to pneumonia. He passed away surrounded by his family.
His talent agency, Gordon & French, confirmed Head's death. Head was known for portraying Rupert Giles in the series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" from 1997 to 2003, and Rupert Mannion in "Ted Lasso" from 2020 to 2023. "Ted Lasso" has won Emmy awards.
Emily Head and Daisy Head, both actors, are his daughters. They shared a statement regarding their father's passing. Head shared his two daughters with his longtime partner, Sarah Fisher, an animal welfare advocate. "Our grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of, and in the audiences that love them," his daughters said. "How lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us," they said.
Head gained recognition in the United Kingdom during the 1980s for his appearances in advertisements for Nescafe instant coffee. He also appeared in the series "Little Britain" from 2003 to 2006. Matt Lucas, who created "Little Britain" and worked with Head on the show, offered a statement. "I am very sad indeed to learn of the passing of Tony Head," Lucas said. "My heart goes out to Daisy and Emily." The actor was featured in the series "Doctor Who" and the film "The Iron Lady," which starred Meryl Streep. Head's filmography also includes the 2024 film "Upgraded." Lucas noted Head's character and work, stating, "He was unfailingly brilliant, and always so kind and warm."
