WASHINGTON — The 'Stanley Pup' television special will premiere for a third year on Monday, June 8, in the United States and Canada. The 90-minute program features 32 puppies, each representing a National Hockey League team, with names resembling those of popular NHL players.
In the U.S., the special will air on TruTV and HBO Max at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Canadian viewers can watch it on Sportsnet at 8 p.m. EDT. A replay will be available on the NHL YouTube channel on June 9 at 9 a.m., and the NHL Network will re-air the special on Wednesday night following its premiere.
The event is a parody inspired by the Puppy Bowl that airs on Super Bowl Sunday. Many of the participating puppies are available for adoption. The Brandywine Valley SPCA partnered with the NHL to organize the competition.
The special will include appearances by NHL players Matthew Schaefer and Alex Ovechkin. Comedian and 'Saturday Night Live' cast member Kenan Thompson, rapper Flavor Flav, and actors Anthony Anderson, Jean Smart, Brooke Shields, and Joel McHale are among those scheduled to appear. Television personality Michael Strahan and 'The Dogist' creator Elias Weiss Friedman will also make appearances. Alexa Landestoy will serve as rinkside reporter and color commentator for the broadcast.
