WASHINGTON, D.C. — Jacob Reses, chief of staff to Vice President JD Vance, will depart from his position at the end of the summer. The departure follows Reses' wife becoming pregnant with their first child.
Reses notified Vance of his plans to leave several months prior to the announcement. He began serving as chief of staff in January 2025. Reses' future employment plans have not been publicly announced.
Vance said, "Jacob's been by my side for my whole career in public life." He added, "From day one of my time as a Senator-elect, I could not have asked for a more loyal and discerning advisor and friend as my chief of staff." White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles said, "Jacob has been an important part of our White House leadership team and has served the Vice President with absolute distinction." Wiles said, "From diplomacy and war, to complicated matters, to the most minute logistics, there has been no task too big or too small for him to tackle."
Prior to his role as chief of staff, Reses worked on Vance's 2022 Senate campaign in Ohio and traveled with Vance on his campaign plane in 2024 after Vance became a vice-presidential candidate. Vance delivered a toast at Reses' wedding in January. Reses previously worked for Senator Josh Hawley and was employed by Heritage Action, an affiliate of the Heritage Foundation.
A source indicated that Reses may return to work in the vice president's office at an unspecified point in the future. Separately, Vance's former senior counsel, Sean Cooksey, joined a lobbying and public affairs firm in February.
No independent assessment of Jacob Reses’s claims was available.
