NORTH HARRIS COUNTY — A vehicle crash on Wednesday night resulted in the death of a 30-year-old male passenger. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the 600 block of Century Plaza, near Woodham Drive.
A vehicle traveling eastbound on Century Plaza lost control, exited the roadway, and then struck a grassy median. The male passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the collision and paramedics pronounced him dead at the crash site. He was not restrained by a seat belt.
The female driver of the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. Investigators determined the driver was intoxicated and placed her under arrest. She was charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Investigators indicated that speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the collision. Department Deputy Laura Vasquez said, "The driver told deputies she was traveling about 60 mph in an area where the speed limit is 35 mph." The driver and the deceased passenger had been in a common-law marriage and together for approximately six years. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no additional injuries were reported.
No independent assessment was available for this report.
