D.C. — Honda is recalling 880,514 vehicles due to a potential issue with the rear subframe that could lead to suspension failure. The recall affects certain 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX vehicles.

The recalled vehicles were sold in 22 states and the District of Columbia. These include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The rear subframe on these models could corrode at the suspension mounting points.

If corrosion occurs at these points, it can cause the rear suspension to fail. This failure may result in drivers losing control of their vehicle, which would increase the risk of a crash or injury. Honda estimates that 1 percent of the listed vehicles contain this defect.

Honda has not received any warranty claims, injury reports, or fatalities related to the defect. Honda and Acura dealers will inspect the rear subframe of affected vehicles. They will install a reinforcement kit, repair, or replace components as needed, at no cost to vehicle owners.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 7. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has assigned recall campaign number 26V367000 to this action. Honda has also assigned internal recall numbers AOU and AOT.

Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) applicable to the recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov starting June 10. Vehicle owners can also contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 for more information.
