PARK CITY, UTAH — Rivian commenced customer deliveries of its R2 electric SUV on June 9, 2026. The initial R2 Launch Package is priced at $59,485 and includes a lifetime subscription to the Autonomy Plus hands-free driving system.
The R2 Premium model, priced at $55,485, produces 450 horsepower and has an EPA-estimated range of 330 miles. The R2 Performance model accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds, generating 656 horsepower and approximately 606 pound-feet of torque. All R2 models feature a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing a charge from 10 to 80 percent capacity in approximately 29 minutes.
A base single-motor Standard R2, offering a 275-mile range, is scheduled for release in summer 2027 at a price of $45,000. Before that, the R2 Standard Long Range variant will be released in early 2027, priced at $48,490, with 350 horsepower and 345 miles of range. The company expects to achieve per-unit profitability with the R2 in 2026 and plans to deliver between 20,000 and 25,000 R2 vehicles by the end of 2026.
Uber has agreed to invest up to $1.25 billion to deploy as many as 40,000 R2 vehicles as robotaxis on its rideshare network. Max Koff, R2 chief engineer, said, "The R2 is the culmination of all our learnings before."
The R2 has a fixed ground clearance of 9.6 inches and a water-fording depth of 19.7 inches. The vehicle's electrical architecture integrates five control modules onto a single processing chip, which handles data from five radar sensors and eleven cameras. The UHF driving assist system currently allows hands-free steering control on highways in selectable sensitivity modes. The company plans to release a software update for the UHF system later in 2026 that will add traffic light and stop sign compliance. The UHF system can currently proceed through traffic signals without stopping if it does not detect cross traffic or stopped vehicles ahead and the driver does not intervene.
The company plans to manufacture the R2 at its facility in Normal, Illinois, and open a new production plant in Georgia by late 2028. In the previous fiscal year, Rivian reported delivering 42,247 vehicles and a net loss of $3.6 billion. The U.S. Congress eliminated a $7,500 federal tax credit for new electric vehicles. Rivian had previously targeted adjusted profitability by 2027 but later withdrew that timeline.
No independent assessment of Rivian R2’s claims was available.
