HOUSTON — A 15-year-old male died from gunshot wounds outside a residence on the 400 block of Remington Ridge Drive, and an 18-year-old male sustained a gunshot injury and was discharged from a hospital. Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of an active shooting at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Monday.

The 15-year-old and the 18-year-old were involved in a verbal dispute before shots were fired. Both youths discharged firearms during the altercation. Detectives are searching the property and collecting evidence to determine the origin of the firearms.

Authorities clarified that the gathering at the residence was not a party. Sergeant Sofia Silva of the Homicide Division said, "During the summer they were spending time at this residence. There were about seven minors inside the house. Seven children live in this residence and their ages range from 3 to 19 years old."

The 18-year-old individual involved in the shooting is cooperating with law enforcement. No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the shooting. Sergeant Silva said, "I recommend that parents get involved in their children's lives. They should know where they are, who they are with, and pay attention to what they carry with them or have inside the house. Do not leave firearms within the reach of minors."
