BEXAR COUNTY — Erik Cantu was sentenced to two years of deferred adjudication for a burglary of habitation charge. Judge Stephanie Boyd issued the sentencing in Bexar County's 187th Criminal District Court, meaning Cantu will not serve additional prison time for this charge.
Cantu was indicted on June 1 on a second-degree felony burglary of habitation charge. An arrest affidavit alleges Cantu broke into the home of Emily Proulx, the mother of his child, in December 2025. The affidavit states Cantu allegedly stole a tablet belonging to Proulx and used it to message her friends.
Live surveillance footage recorded Cantu outside Proulx's front door before a device notification indicated the tablet was moving toward his residence. A witness reported seeing Cantu on Proulx's second-floor patio prior to the alleged burglary.
Cantu pleaded no contest to the burglary charge before jury selection commenced. The state opposed Cantu's application for deferred adjudication or probation, according to a district attorney's office statement. Prosecutors had recommended Cantu be sentenced to prison.
Cantu's plea agreement includes the completion of 300 hours of community service. His movements will be monitored via a GPS tracking device. Court orders mandate Cantu remain at least 1,000 feet from Proulx and prohibit any communication with her. Cantu is also prohibited from operating a vehicle for two years and must pay $1,290 in fines and court fees.
No independent assessment of Erik Cantu’s claims was available.
