NEW YORK CITY — Actors Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad made cameo appearances in every performance during The Book of Mormon's 15th anniversary week on Broadway. The two also performed together at the 2026 Tony Awards on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall.

Rannells and Gad originated the roles of Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, respectively, in the musical's original Broadway cast. The show's creators, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, along with several other original cast members, also appeared during the anniversary week. The musical premiered on Broadway in 2011.

Gad recalled his initial hesitation about joining the production. He stated, "I said, 'I don't think I can do this show.' And he said, 'Why?' And I said, 'Because I don't want to get killed.'" Rannells expressed confidence in the show's humor. He said, "I heard the humor in it and I felt very confident that people were going to think it was funny."

Rannells commented on the musical's longevity. He stated, "I certainly didn't think it would be still running on Broadway after 15 years and would have toured to Salt Lake City." Gad described the show's emotional arc, saying, "If you stick with the craziness and chaos, the end is very uplifting. It's actually quite emotional and soaring."

During rehearsals for a workshop for the original production, Rannells met with two Mormon missionaries near Lincoln Center and at his residence. He advised them to avoid soliciting pedestrians in Times Square. Gad requested that the vocal key for his 2026 performances be lowered, but the production team declined.
