HOUSTON — Chace Calicut was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an alleged roadway shooting on July 6, 2025. Court records in January 2026 showed that the charges against him had been dismissed.

Georgia Southern University announced on June 6, 2026, that it had signed Calicut. Calicut had initially committed to the University of Georgia in June 2025.

Quanell X, a civil rights activist, said, "Calicut was a victim that night, not a criminal." He added, "He will be leaving for Georgia soon."

At the time of his initial commitment in June 2025, 247Sports rated Calicut as a four-star recruit. Currently, 247Sports lists him as a three-star recruit. Another North Shore football teammate, Isaiah Phillip, was allegedly involved in the July 6, 2025, shooting. Phillip was killed in an unrelated shooting before charges were filed against him.

Calicut played football for North Shore Senior High School in 2024. He transferred from the North Shore football program to a local alternative school ahead of his senior season. Calicut did not play football during the 2025 season.
