HOUSTON — Housing Alliance HTX will accept applications for eight public housing properties from June 22 through July 6. Applications will be processed using a random lottery system for placement on the waitlist, which is reopening for the first time since 2023.

Housing Alliance will conduct the drawing after the July 6 deadline. Selected applicants will receive notifications and further instructions in late July. Applicants can select up to three properties on a single submission.

Kelly Village, Lincoln Park, Long Drive, Oxford Place, Bellerive, Lyerly, Independence Heights, and Irvinton Village are the eight eligible public housing properties. Unit availability and bedroom counts will differ across these properties. The Bellerive and Lyerly properties are restricted to residents aged 62 and older. Select properties offer application preferences for homeless applicants or those with disabilities.

The Housing Choice Voucher program remains closed to new applicants. Approximately 2,500 people currently on the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist are eligible to transfer to the public housing waitlist. Eligible voucher waitlist participants will receive a consent form via email that must be returned to Housing Alliance. They will bypass the lottery and receive waitlist placement based on the receipt timestamp of their completed forms. Current public housing waitlist participants maintain their existing queue position and do not need to reapply. Kelly Haines, senior vice president for asset management, said, "Early account setup in RentCafe is strongly recommended because it gives applicants time to resolve any access issues before the application window opens." Application support is available by phone at 713-260-0500 or in person at 2640 Fountain View.
