WASHINGTON, D.C. — A mayoral debate hosted by Mark Seagraves in Washington, D.C. featured policy pledges on policing and immigration from leading District of Columbia mayoral candidates Janeese Lewis George and Kenyan McDuffie. The candidates discussed their plans for various departments and cooperation with federal agencies.

George stated she plans to rescind an order from former Police Chief Pamela Smith on her first day in office. She will also end directives instructing District of Columbia police officers to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement for individuals not currently in custody. "I’m also going to make sure that we are not sharing data and public information with federal immigration and law enforcement, that we are following our sanctuary values laws." George said.

During the debate, McDuffie said he would end cooperation with federal immigration enforcement on his first day in office. He also stated he would appoint a police chief to restore accountability and transparency at the Metropolitan Police Department. McDuffie addressed concerns about DC Water's CEO, David Gadis, stating he did not have enough information to determine if Gadis should be removed from his position. "I think that the person responsible, Mark, should be gone." McDuffie said.

George said, "No," in response to one question. George also commented on shared credit, stating, "It’s very rich for men to want to take the credit for the work of women." McDuffie said, "Republicans are not going to save Washington, D.C., they are too busy doing the things Trump has asked them to do."
