SAN ANTONIO — Matthew Sanchez, a 23-year-old former San Antonio Independent School District police officer, was arrested on May 14 on a deadly conduct charge. The charge stems from an off-duty incident that occurred in November 2025.

An arrest affidavit states Sanchez was ordered to leave a dance club after becoming intoxicated and vomiting. Following the club incident, the group relocated to a parking lot near Northwest Military Highway and Wurzbach Parkway. The affidavit also indicates at least one fellow school police officer was present with Sanchez during the November 2025 incident.

The arrest affidavit states Sanchez pulled a firearm from his glove compartment while seated in the passenger seat of his vehicle. He waved the firearm out of the vehicle window and pointed it toward a friend, according to the affidavit. A friend told San Antonio police that Sanchez offered him cocaine during the incident. The friend also stated he took the cocaine and discarded it in the grass.

San Antonio police learned of the November 2025 incident in May while investigating a separate case involving Sanchez. A friend informed San Antonio police that Sanchez had been acting erratically since the November incident, including while working around children.

San Antonio Independent School District spokesperson Laura Short stated the district is aware of the off-duty incident that led to Sanchez's arrest. Short said, "He is no longer with the district." She declined to elaborate on his specific work location, whether he was fired or resigned, or the exact date of his departure. Short also stated that an investigation into another off-duty school police officer who was present during the incident is ongoing.

Jail records show Sanchez was held in jail continuously from his May 14 arrest until his release on June 1. He was released after posting bond.
