WASHINGTON, D.C. — Subaru recalled 69,663 Forester SUVs on May 21 due to a potential moonroof detachment hazard. The recall affects certain 2026 Subaru Forester and Forester Hybrid vehicles.
Affected 2026 Subaru Forester vehicles include 65,656 units produced between June 19, 2025, and March 13, 2026. The 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid vehicles include 4,007 units manufactured from February 20, 2026, to March 17, 2026.
The recalled vehicles may contain power moonroof assemblies with glass panels improperly bonded to the sliding frame during manufacturing. This improper bonding can lead to the adhesive bond weakening over time, potentially causing the moonroof glass to detach during vehicle operation.
Subaru received a technical report on February 26, 2026, concerning a vehicle with a detached moonroof glass panel. The company opened an investigation and coordinated with its supplier to identify affected vehicles.
A later investigation determined that some moonroof assemblies were produced with improper bonding. Subaru is aware of three technical reports related to this issue in the U.S. market between February 26 and March 25, 2026. Subaru estimates that 2.9% of the recalled vehicles contain this defect.
Recall documents for this action were filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Subaru has not identified any crashes or injuries linked to the defect. Subaru will begin mailing recall notices to affected owners around July 24.
Subaru dealers will inspect the moonroof glass panels for proper adhesion and replace the assembly at no cost if necessary. Vehicle identification numbers for affected models are searchable on Subaru's official website.
