SANGER — Shawn Musgrave, 19, died in a vehicle crash on FM 455 near Lake Crest Drive in Sanger, Texas, just before 10:30 p.m. on May 28. Musgrave was pronounced dead at the scene, and one other person also died in the incident.

A third individual involved in the crash was hospitalized and later released. Sanger police officers responded to the scene of the accident.

Musgrave was a track and field athlete at the University of the Incarnate Word. The university confirmed his death and held a special mass on Tuesday to honor him. Musgrave's hometown is listed as Sanger, and he is an alumnus of Sanger High School.

A university spokesperson stated, "The University of the Incarnate Word community is stunned and saddened by the sudden loss of Sam Musgrave. Sam was a cherished member of our UIW community and a beloved athlete on our track and field team. Sam had just begun his UIW journey in January and he will be missed by so many."

The Sanger Independent School District issued a statement regarding a vehicle accident that killed a 2025 graduate of its cross country program and hospitalized two other cross country student-athletes. The district did not identify the victims in the statement.
