PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed safety Darnell Savage to a one-year contract. The team also released defensive back Makari Paige.
Savage has appeared in 88 games with 82 starts over his first seven NFL seasons. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the 21st overall selection.
He played for the Packers from 2019 to 2023. In 2024, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent and started all 13 games he played, recording 51 tackles, 41 solo stops, six passes defensed, two tackles for a loss, and an interception.
In 2025, Savage appeared in 12 games combined with the Jaguars, Washington Commanders, and Buffalo Bills, totaling 25 tackles, 18 solo stops, three passes defensed, and a forced fumble.
Over his career, Savage has recorded 367 tackles, including 273 solo stops, 40 passes defensed, 11 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one sack, and 10 interceptions returned for 141 yards, including one touchdown.
In 2020 with Green Bay, he led the team with four interceptions—all in the final six weeks—and ranked fourth on the roster with 75 tackles. Savage was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team in 2019. He also recorded a 64-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Packers’ 2021 NFC Wild Card game against the Dallas Cowboys, the fourth longest in franchise postseason history.
