SAN ANTONIO — Three people were hospitalized after being stung multiple times by aggressive bees at a home on the northeast side of San Antonio. Firefighters responded around 10:35 a.m. to the 4300 block of Stockdale Street.

A resident was mowing the lawn when the bees suddenly became aggressive, according to fire officials. The swarm chased people for at least 100 yards away from the property, and everyone involved was stung multiple times.

Two people were injured at the home and were being transported to a hospital. A third person was taken to a hospital from a nearby location and is believed to be connected to the same bee attack, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responding to the scene were also stung and received treatment, SAFD said. The extent of the victims' injuries was not immediately known.

A person at the home told responders the hive had been on the property for some time and had never previously attacked anyone, according to officials. Authorities have not determined what type of bees were involved.

Specialists were expected to respond to remove or neutralize the hive.

Emergency crews remained on scene. The aggressive behavior appears to be isolated to the home where the incident occurred, according to officials. Residents in the area who see large numbers of bees are advised to stay indoors, SAFD advised. The situation remains under investigation.
