POCONOS — KJ Coles was named to the Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ Boys All-State Basketball Team, receiving Second Team honors in Class 6A. The recognition caps a standout senior season for the Pocono Mountain West guard, who has committed to play at Kutztown University.
Coles averaged 21.2 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game during his final year with the Panthers. He shot 53.8% from the floor, 34.4% on 3-pointers, and an exceptional 91.8% from the free-throw line. His scoring consistency helped him break the Pocono Mountain West school record for most career points, finishing with 1,770— the second-highest total in Monroe County history.
"I’m really thankful for being named All-State. All credit goes to the Pocono Mountain West coaching staff and my teammates," Coles said.
Pocono Mountain West head coach Rich Williams leaned heavily on Coles during his senior season, particularly as the team faced scoring challenges. "KJ upped his game, as All-Stars should their senior year. He carried us at times due to us struggling to score the ball. He did his job! Every game showed up, double and triple-teamed, held and grabbed. He just kept competing," Williams said.
Williams also emphasized the program’s commitment to player development. "Our player development culture is second to none. If you want to be great, you just need to let our staff know. My assistant coaches will help you get there. It’s up to you as a player though – we aren’t chasing or begging," he said.
Coles’ selection extends Pocono Mountain West boys’ basketball’s streak of All-State honorees to six consecutive years, from 2021 through 2026. His individual performance this season stood out not only for its statistical dominance but also for his ability to produce under constant defensive pressure.
