LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GEORGIA — The Lookout Mountain, Ga., Planning Commission has called a special meeting for June 10, 2026, to consider amendments to the City of Lookout Mountain's Zoning Ordinance requested by Rock City Enterprises. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 1214 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Georgia 30750.
The purpose of the meeting is for the Municipal Planning Commission to review proposed modifications to Permitted Uses in the Tourist-Oriented Commercial District and to the list of Nonconforming Uses, specifically Sections 10-5 and 10-12 of the zoning ordinance. The commission will make a recommendation to the Lookout Mountain City Council, which holds authority to make the final decision on the amendments.
The June 10 meeting will be open to the public but will not constitute a public hearing. According to the City of Lookout Mountain's Zoning Procedures and Standards Ordinance, no additional public hearing is required before the city council renders its final decision. The commission previously held a public hearing on the proposed changes and has continued to accept written public comments since.
Rock City Enterprises stated that if the gondola proposal is denied, it will construct the gondola lower down the slope outside the city limits. The company said such an alternative would necessitate the use of a large crane during construction, the building of a construction road over currently undisturbed property, and placement of the station on land that is presently undisturbed. Rock City Enterprises also stated that the lowered gondola station would be fully visible to nearby bluff residents.
Residents are encouraged to attend the June 10 Planning Commission meeting, either in person or by teleconference. Those requiring accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact the City Clerk’s Office at least 24 hours before the meeting at 706-820-1586.
