LAKE JACKSON — A driver died after a Brazoria County sheriff's deputy shot them following a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a home's garage in Lake Jackson early Monday morning, June 1. The incident occurred shortly after midnight near FM 2004 and This Way Street.

A deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop at approximately 12:09 a.m. The driver failed to stop and fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when the vehicle entered the attached garage of a residence in the 100 block of Indian Warrior Trail in Lake Jackson.

As the deputy encountered the driver, the deputy discharged his firearm, injuring the driver. The driver was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers will lead the investigation alongside the Brazoria County District Attorney's Office.

The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, in accordance with department policy. Detectives remained at the scene for hours on Monday morning, collecting evidence as the investigation continued.

Authorities have not released the identity of the person killed. Officials said no additional information will be released at this time. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
