LEHI — Brody Downs, a linebacker from Lehi, Utah, committed to play college football for Oregon State. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect made his decision after attending the program’s spring practice and Spring Game.
“I was pretty confident coming in I was going to commit. After meeting all the coaches and seeing their belief in me, I knew Oregon State was a great fit so I’m really excited about my decision.”
Downs cited the coaching staff’s investment in him and the team’s culture as central to his choice. “The biggest factors for me were the opportunity they gave me and how strong the culture is out there.” He added that Oregon State “feels like home” and expressed enthusiasm about joining the program, saying, “I just feel really blessed with this opportunity. Oregon State feels like home and I’m very excited to have my decision locked in. I think the Beavs are going to turn some heads this year and I’m excited to be a part of this.”
Cort Dennison, Oregon State’s linebackers coach, served as Downs’s main recruiter. “Cort Dennison is my main recruiter and he did a phenomenal job.” Oregon State coaches see Downs as a potential middle (mike) or hybrid (jack) linebacker, roles that align with his skills and physical attributes.
“They see me as a mike (middle) or jack (hybrid) linebacker that can move around and I like the fit.” He also believes his abilities will translate well within the team’s defensive scheme. “I think I’m going to fit in really well in their defense.”
Downs demonstrated his athleticism at the Under Armour Next Camp in Utah, where he recorded a 4.2-second shuttle time and a 32-inch vertical jump. His performance there and during his visit to Corvallis contributed to his confidence in the decision to join the Beavers.
