Australia named its 26-man squad for the World Cup, including uncapped players Tete Yengi and Cristian Volpato while omitting veteran forward Martin Boyle. The final roster was confirmed by head coach Tony Popovic following an extended pre-tournament training camp.

Yengi and Volpato were late additions to Popovic’s preliminary training squad and have never previously represented Australia in an international match. Yengi, on loan from Livingston to Japanese club Machida Zelvia since January, scored six goals in 22 appearances for his loan side. Volpato, a 22-year-old midfielder at Italian club Sassuolo, had his switch of national teams formally ratified by FIFA earlier this year.

Martin Boyle, who has earned 41 caps for Australia, was not included in the final selection. Kye Rowles, who joined the training camp late after moving from Hearts to DC United, also failed to secure a spot in the final squad.

Australia’s roster features a mix of seasoned and emerging talent. Goalkeepers Mat Ryan (Levante), Izzo (Randers), and Beach (Melbourne City) will provide cover between the posts. Defenders include Aziz Behich (Melbourne City), Harry Souttar (Leicester City), Cameron Burgess (Swansea City), Thomas Deng (Albirex Niigata), and others. Midfielders Jackson Irvine (St Pauli), Cammy Devlin (Heart of Midlothian), and Ajdin Hrustic (Heracles Almelo) are among those selected. Forwards Mathew Leckie (Melbourne City), Nestory Irankunda (Watford), Mohamed Toure (Norwich City), and the newly eligible Volpato join Yengi in the attacking unit.

Leckie and Ryan are set to appear in their fourth World Cups, which would match Australia’s national record for tournament appearances. Behich and Irvine will feature in their third tournaments, while Devlin and Souttar are selected for their second.

"Some difficult decisions had to be made – that's the nature of major tournaments," Popovic said. "But it's also a credit to all the players involved over the past few weeks who worked extremely hard during an extended and challenging pre-camp."

Australia will play Switzerland in its final pre-tournament friendly on Saturday before opening its World Cup campaign against Turkey on 14 June.
