GLASGOW — Celtic FC Women defeated Rangers 1-0 in the Women's Scottish Cup final on May 31, 2026, at Hampden Park. Morgan Cross scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute.
Emma Lawton received a second yellow card in the 57th minute, reducing Celtic to 10 players for the remainder of the match. Despite being a player down for more than 30 minutes, Celtic held off Rangers’ attacks to secure the victory.
“Brilliant feeling to win my first trophy with the club,” head coach Grant Scott told BBC Scotland. He stated that Celtic beat all four of Scotland’s other full-time professional women’s teams during their cup run. Scott told Celtic TV, “We’ve had to dig in today, and during the season we’ve questioned each other on our capability to do that.” He said, “This cup run's been magnificent - it's salvages a bit of the season for us.” Scott added, “Success is not defined just by winning one cup and my mentality is that success for us will look like us improving every year and competing for all the trophies again every year and continually winning them.”
Scott became head coach in December 2025, replacing Elena Sadiku, who left to join Hacken in Sweden. His side ended an 11-game winless streak against Rangers, having lost five times to them during the league campaign.
Rangers head coach Leanne Crichton said, “We are super disappointed. We want to win trophies. We've not managed to do that.” Rangers finished as runners-up in the Scottish Women's Premier League and both domestic cup competitions in the 2025/26 season.
Former Partick Thistle manager Brian Graham said Celtic deserved their victory due to resolute defending and Rangers' failure to capitalize on their numerical advantage after Lawton’s red card. He noted that Rangers lost the League Cup to Glasgow City, the league title on the final day, and the Scottish Cup on the final day of the season. Graham stated, “Over the last five or six years, the standard of the women's game in Scotland is definitely getting better - and it's only going one way.”
