Eva Longoria has entered a new partnership with tech-device company Lenovo to advise small business owners. The collaboration will focus on supporting entrepreneurs through mentorship and practical guidance drawn from her experience in entertainment and business.
Longoria, an award-winning actor and director, emphasized the importance of collaboration in both filmmaking and entrepreneurship. She said resourcefulness is a critical trait she looks for in partners and hires, valuing problem-solving ability over formal pedigree. "I love people who figure it out and are willing to do what it takes to get to the end solution," she said. She added that resourcefulness means "more than [being] Harvard-educated or Ivy League-educated."
Longoria said mentorship has played a big role in her growth as a director and leader. "One thing that I learned is: You don't have to even know your mentor" to learn from them, she said. She cited figures like Martin Scorsese and Oprah Winfrey as sources of inspiration despite limited personal interaction. "I love Martin Scorsese as a filmmaker, and I've never met him," she said. "I love Oprah and everything she's done. I've met her, but I don't know her [well], but she's been a mentor to me."
Longoria also challenged the notion that success requires going it alone. "So that [idea] of, 'Go at it alone you and only you can make it happen,' is not true," she said. Instead, she said, "There's a village of brains that you should be tapping into." She warned against assuming answers without verification. "Assumption is a very dangerous thing, and so you really need to clarify [and] ask the questions" with humility, she said. "Don't be afraid to [tell] people: I don't know that. I'm so unfamiliar with that. Can you walk me through how that works?"
