GAINESVILLE — Florida football will rely on several freshmen for early contributions during the 2026 season. Among them, edge rusher KJ Ford appears best positioned to secure immediate playing time.
Ford, who stands 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 250 pounds, recorded 17.5 tackles and 8.5 sacks during his senior season at Duncanville High School in Texas. His path to early snaps is considered the clearest among incoming freshmen, particularly as the JACK linebacker role remains unclaimed following the departure of veteran players to the transfer portal.
Wide receiver Justin Williams, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound former four-star prospect from Gainesville, Florida, is also expected to factor into the rotation early. Williams was an early enrollee and has drawn praise from Florida’s coaching staff for his work ethic during offseason preparation. He was the first high school player since Devin Hester to surpass 1,000 rushing and receiving yards in the same season. Williams joins a receiving room led by Vernell Brown III and supplemented by transfer Eric Singleton Jr., who joined the team for the 2026 season.
Cornerback CJ Bronaugh, a 6-foot, 163-pound former four-star recruit from Winter Garden, Florida, adds depth to the secondary. Ranked as the No. 7 cornerback in his class, Bronaugh was a three-time Florida state sprinting champion. According to verified assessments, he could see early action within Jon Sumrall’s defensive scheme.
Both Williams and Bronaugh were among the highest-rated signees in Billy Napier’s final recruiting class for the Gators, underscoring their anticipated roles in the program’s transition under new leadership. Their immediate availability provides Florida with needed depth and talent as the team prepares for the 2026 campaign.
Florida will open the 2026 season with a roster that includes multiple true freshmen projected to contribute on both offense and defense, per team reports.
