MEXICO CITY — Toluca won the CONCACAF Champions Cup on May 30, 2026, defeating UANL Tigres in a penalty shootout. The match ended 6-5 in the shootout after a 1-1 draw through extra time.
This victory marked Toluca's first CONCACAF Champions Cup title in 23 years. The club previously won the competition in 2003, and this latest triumph gives them three CONCACAF Champions Cup titles in their history.
Jorge Díaz Price scored for Toluca in the first period of extra time, having entered the match in the 88th minute. UANL Tigres equalized in the 113th minute through a header by Joaquim Pereira, forcing the contest into penalties.
Goalkeeper Luis García played a decisive role in the shootout, saving attempts from Fernando Gorriarán and José Juan Purata. His stops helped secure Toluca's narrow 6-5 advantage in the penalty sequence.
Toluca reached the final after a comeback victory over LAFC in the semifinals. With this title, the club qualified for both the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
UANL Tigres were seeking their second CONCACAF title, having last won the tournament in 2020. Their hopes were further hampered when forward Marcelo Flores suffered a right knee injury in the 77th minute. Flores left the pitch in tears, and the team did not immediately disclose the severity of the injury.
Toluca's win continues a streak of Mexican dominance in the competition. Mexican teams have now claimed four consecutive CONCACAF Champions Cup titles. The last non-Mexican team to win the tournament was the Seattle Sounders in 2022.
CONCACAF has four spots allocated for the next FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in 2029. Toluca secured one of those berths with its victory on May 30, 2026.
