EUGENE — The Register-Guard and Active Chiropractic have named multiple Oregon high school girls athletes as candidates for Athlete of the Week following their performances at the OSAA state championships held between May 23 and May 29, 2026. The public can vote for their choice at registerguard.com/sports, with the poll closing at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Among the track and field standouts, Cottage Grove senior Makya Alsup placed second in the javelin with a throw of 122 feet, 1 inch at the Class 4A state meet on May 29. Her teammate Ella Cardwell, also a senior, took second in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 10:22.19 in the same classification.

Triangle Lake senior Samara Baker earned two top-five finishes at the Class 1A championships on May 29, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.84 seconds and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.37 seconds. Central Linn sophomore Anya Griffith placed second in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best 4:45.35 and fourth in the 400 meters in 59.88 seconds at the Class 2A meet.

South Eugene freshman Eva Johnson Hess recorded a personal-best 9:47.08 to place second in the Class 6A 3,000 meters on May 29. Her time ranks as the third-fastest in Oregon across all classifications this season. Monroe sophomore Miley Richardson won the Class 2A long jump title with a personal-best mark of 16 feet, 9 1/4 inches and placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.68.

Thurston senior Addison Nelson claimed the Class 5A triple jump title with a leap of 38 feet, 4 3/4 inches. In tennis, South Eugene’s Ellie Cho and Ellie Park captured the Class 6A doubles state title on May 23 at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton, defeating Sheldon’s Hayden Kearney and Alyssa Piquette 6-2, 6-3 in the final.

In softball, Marist Catholic juniors Sophia Lydon and Lillian Wobbe led their team to a 1-0 victory over Stayton on May 26 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. Lydon went 2 for 3 and drove in the game’s only run, while Wobbe pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out 11, walking two, and allowing five hits.
