SAN ANTONIO — Storms are expected to move through San Antonio from 10 PM Tuesday to 5 AM Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and a high risk of street flooding. The worst of the weather will occur overnight, with rain tapering off before the Wednesday morning commute begins.

The primary concern associated with the storms is street flooding, particularly in areas with poor drainage. Some low water crossings may remain closed into Wednesday morning even after rainfall ends, potentially affecting travel routes.

In addition to heavy rain, the storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph. These strong winds may accompany the most intense thunderstorms as they progress eastward across the region.

Rainfall is not expected to begin until after sunset Tuesday, as odds for precipitation remain low during daylight hours. Temperatures on Tuesday are forecast to reach the upper-80s before the storms develop.

Meteorologists say an upper-level energy system approaching from the west will help initiate thunderstorm development west of San Antonio, with those storms then tracking eastward overnight. This system is responsible for the timing and intensity of the expected rainfall.

While the main storm threat ends by early Wednesday, a few pop-up storms may still develop during the afternoons of Wednesday and Thursday. However, drier conditions are anticipated Thursday night into Friday, with Friday expected to be completely rain-free.
