CHESTER COUNTY — The westbound lanes of the Route 30 Bypass in Chester County, Pennsylvania, reopened Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash in a construction zone the previous evening. The eastbound lanes remained closed as of 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. Monday in a construction zone on the Route 30 Bypass, according to Pennsylvania state police. Four vehicles were involved and multiple people were injured, state police said.

A tractor-trailer crashed over a guardrail at the scene in Valley Township, near Coatesville. The Route 30 Bypass was closed overnight while police conducted an in-depth investigation.

The crash took place in Chester County, located west of Philadelphia. Valley Township, where the incident occurred near Coatesville, is in the western portion of the county. Construction zones on the bypass have been in place as part of ongoing roadwork in the area. Pennsylvania state police were the responding law enforcement agency. The bypass, which runs through Chester County connecting the Philadelphia region to points west, carries significant commuter and freight traffic. The overnight closure affected both directions of travel before westbound lanes were restored Tuesday morning. Eastbound lanes had not reopened as of the 5:45 a.m. status update from authorities. State police did not immediately release information on the severity of the injuries or the number of people hurt beyond confirming that multiple people were injured in the four-vehicle crash.
